What I (And Most Other Moms) Really Want For Mother's Day

Here we are.

My first "earned" Mother's Day...

I felt a little silly last year because Olivia was only like 2 or 3 weeks old... I mean... I was momming it up as much as the next Mama those first few weeks... but did I really deserve to be celebrated with the Moms that hustled all year round?

Mother's Day Last Year

(^Mother's Day 2017^)

The answer to that question obviously doesn't matter in the scheme of things, but here I am, looking forward to being accepted into the sisterhood of Mom life as I receive praise for the dirty but amazing job that is Motherhood.

I'm seeing all these advertisements for Mother's Day gifts lately...and damn...I would LOVE a spa day, a new diamond, or fancy bouquet of flowers almost too big for my kitchen table...but is that what I really want for Mother's Day?

...I'm not totally convinced...

While all of those things would be AMAZING... Here are the 5 things I really want for Mother's Day, and chances are, most other Moms want them too.

1. THE OPPORTUNITY TO SLEEP IN

Honestly, if I was offered this opportunity, I'm not sure that my body would even allow me to sleep in at this point... #momlife... but, I would love the chance to try, and hell, if all else fails, I'd like to just lay in the middle of my king size bed, under a mountain of blankets, just chilling... No thinking, no planning, no arranging... just me, my blankets, and maybe some Netflix if I'm feeling saucy...

2. A CLEAN HOUSE WITHOUT LIFTING A FINGER

I really don't care how this happens, whether it be my husband, a maid, or divine intervention, but I would DIE if I woke up to a clean house without having to do any of the dirty work. There are A LOT of moving parts to keeping a house clean, especially with kids... and it still blows my mind how I can literally leave the room to pee and come back to a nuclear bomb site. It would feel so refreshing and satisfying to come downstairs and see everything in it's proper place, as if Snow White's woodland friends decided to do me a solid and help a girl out.

3. AN UNINTERRUPTED SHOWER/BATH WITHOUT A TIME LIMIT

I have to admit, my husband is really good with keeping Olivia busy while I'm doing my thing, but I often have this internal feeling that I'm on the clock and I have to hurry, hurry, hurry. It's not even anything he says or does, but I just instinctively rush through my "self care" stuff so I can get back to my Mom duties. It would be so nice, if for just one day, I could turn off my psycho Mom tendencies, and just enjoy a hot shower, with no time limit, and maybe some Beyonce...

4. THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO A STORE BY MYSELF AND BUY SOMETHING JUST FOR ME

I can't imagine that I'm the only one who wants to buy things for everyone else...It must be a Mom thing... I RARELY buy anything for myself. I often end up in a store talking myself out of buying something I want because, "I can buy so many other things for Olivia with this money...". "I don't need this shirt. I don't have anything to wear, but Olivia really needs her 755th hair bow, because, you know.. she needs hair bows..."I would love it if I could go into a store of my choosing and buy something that I want for myself, without having any guilt about it. I don't want to second guess it. I just want to go buy something and be happy with it.

5. A GIFT PICKED BY MY LITTLE ONE OR MADE BY MY LITTLE ONE

This is probably cliche, but I don't care. I am such a sucker for homemade gifts... My kid could shit in a bag and give it to me with a bow and I'd probably cry tears of joy... I'm the Mom that saves EVERYTHING my kid does... Total hoarder... but I can't help it... Everything she makes is a memory, and one day she is going to be an angst ridden teenager that hates my guts, and I'd like to look back at her butterfly footprint craft and remember the days when she loved me...okay that might be a little dramatic.. but still... I would love anything from my little nugget.

Don't get me wrong, I'd still GLADLY accept a spa day, a diamond, or flowers...I'd hate for anybody to get the wrong impression...but these 5 things are the things I really want for Mother's Day.

What are you hoping for on Mother's Day?
