When I sit back and really think about it, I've changed so much since becoming a Mom. It's so funny though, because in most ways I'm still the same, but the ways that I'm different are really strange and bizarre. The more I thought about it, the more I wondered if all women change in weird ways when they have kids.
Here are some of the weird ways that I've changed since becoming a Mom. Hopefully you'll relate to a few of them!
Calling People Honey
I honestly think that the moment I gave birth I transformed into an 85 year old woman. I pushed that kiddo out and have been calling people honey ever since. It is so weird, but I literally cannot stop myself from doing it. It just falls right out of my mouth so naturally.... I mean, if I'm being 100% honest, I've always had the soul of an old woman, I like bingo and gossip as much as the next gal at the senior center, but now I'm actually vocalizing it, and it is so bizarre to me!
Speaking in Song
I don't know what it is about being a Mom, but something inside my brain thinks that other people won't understand what I'm saying unless I'm saying it in song. I sing everything. I make up THE DUMBEST songs. I think the best one was a song I used to sing to Olivia when I was waiting for my breast milk to thaw so I could feed her..."Olivia is a very hungry girl, very hungry girl, very hungry girl. Olivia is a very hungry girl, Mama's gonna make you some milk!" It could be 3 AM and you could find me in my pitch black dark kitchen, thawing some breast milk and singing that ridiculous song over and over again.. At first I thought maybe I was losing my mind (sleep deprivation will do that to a gal), but almost two years later, I'm still singing random stuff all the time, so it must just be a Mom thing...
Referring to any Time After 7 PM as "Past Bedtime"
As I transformed into an 85 year old woman while calling everyone honey, I also started referring to any time after 7 PM as "past my bedtime....Which is embarrassing.. but... I've got no shame in my game.. after an entire day of working and Momming and running a household... I am DONE for the day after my child goes to bed... Sorry, not sorry....
Using an Obnoxious High-Pitched Voice
Along with the singing is the obnoxious high-pitch voice. I do it without even thinking about it. It annoys even me as I'm doing it. I don't know how or why it started, all I know is that I cannot stop it. I've even caught myself talking to random people in the voice... I probably come off as a total nut job... Well more of a nut job than I actually am..
I'm More Willing to Pay for Convenience
I own the fact that I'm generally a cheap person. If I can find ways to pinch a penny, I'm gonna find a way to pinch a quarter instead. Since becoming a Mom though, I will 100% pay for convenience. Grocery pick up and delivery? Yep. No more bribing my child to behave on grocery trips. If I could pay for parking closer to the destination, I'd do it. I will forgo my cheapness, just to make my mom life easier. Don't get me wrong, I'm still one of the cheapest people you'll ever meet in your life, but I choose my Mommy mental state over my money any day...
