I Tried Yoga, And This Is What Happened...
If you haven't completely caught on yet, I am a
neurotic, anxiety ridden, type A, overthinking, freak.
Phew, there, I said it.
At least I have the self awareness to see myself for what I really am, right?
I am a closet psycho. On the surface, I put out this "take on the world with no fear and zero f's given" persona, but inside, I am a ball of stress and panic, wrapped in a pretty little bow.
To add to this baseline of spastic behavior, life has gotten incredibly wild lately. My business is growing (which is AMAZING, and I could not be more thankful), my day job is getting busier, my toddler becomes more of a handful with every single day that passes...Shit is getting real, and this girl needs to get it together.
So, to avoid dying from anxiety induced cardiac arrest by the time I'm thirty, I've decided to try to grow as a human being, and learn ways to calm my crazy...
I started drinking herbal teas, using essential oils, trying to get more sleep (still a nightly struggle with that one)... But it just wasn't enough. It definitely helped, don't get me wrong, but not enough to bring me back down to earth at a level that won't cause me a premature death or serious heart condition...
A co-worker and fellow Mom pal of mine (she has also started to explore stress reducing activities) talked a lot about yoga, and after experimenting with a handful of other stress reduction techniques, I decided, "what the hell... I'll try it...".
I had done spur of the moment, mini yoga sessions on my own at home in the past, but I never really took it seriously. I decided I'd give yoga a serious effort and see what would happen.
I downloaded a really great app for my phone that has a ton of different sessions that vary in length and difficulty. It was free to download, and super easy to navigate. I tried a few sessions, and I am OBSESSED.
I don't know if it's the focus that you have to put into all the poses, or the strength and flexibility that it takes, but I am hooked! I've done at least one session every night for the last week. Am I good at it? Probably not yet... But, I love every second of working at it.
I love learning new poses, and different variations on poses. I love that I can find 20 to 30 minutes out of my chaotic day to just chill. I enjoy the silence. I enjoy the excitement I get from getting through a session without falling over or needing to take a break.
UGH. I just love it. I love it, I love it, I love it. I'm so excited that I discovered this amazing tool to bring focus and calm into my life. I 100% recommend that everyone try yoga at least once in their life. There are sessions and programs for people of all skill levels and knowledge. It is an AMAZING way to de-stress.
Have you tried yoga?
